Lost Democracy Tees and Stickers
The original Taken For Ranted design and the one that started it all. I had originally dreamed of taking out ads like this in newspapers around the country, but I had neither the budget nor, ultimately, the desire because there was no feedback. I wouldn’t know whether or not folks found the ads interesting, funny, tragic or what. So I tore an ad out of the local paper and photoshopped it up to add my text so it looks like a Lost and Found ad. It’s harder than you might think to get the background and the text to look right. Anyway, here it is, the original design, which says:
LOST One democracy. 300,000,000 citizens, major military and economic power. Last seen in North American cavorting with corporate fat cats and religious fundamentalists. If seen, please return to the American people. Great sentimental value.
I’ve always thought that the “Great sentimental value” line is the one that makes this thing work.
